Although it’s one of the smallest states in the US with a total area of less than
2000 square miles, Delaware had a big role in the nation’s history. It was the first
state to ratify the US Constitution in 1787, an act that gave Delaware its proud
nickname “The First State”.
Despite its small size, Delaware has a lot to offer residents and tourists alike
– including tax-free shopping! Its capital city, Dover, is home to the Dover International

high Great Dune.
Delaware’s most populous city is Wilmington. Originally settled by Swedish colonists
in 1638, it is considered one of the nation’s first permanent settlements. Today,
Wilmington’s pedestrian-friendly attractions, like Riverfront Wilmington and the

yet historically relevant appeal.
