Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Delaware's Eastern Shore boasts a comfortable climate and miles of sandy coastline. It’s also just a short car-trip from Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington D.C., making it a popular vacation destination. Visitors flock to its famed resort towns, which include Bethany Beach, Rehoboth Beach, and Dewey Beach.

Although it’s one of the smallest states in the US with a total area of less than 2000 square miles, Delaware had a big role in the nation’s history. It was the first state to ratify the US Constitution in 1787, an act that gave Delaware its proud nickname “The First State”.

Delaware’s most populous city is Wilmington. Originally settled by Swedish colonists in 1638, it is considered one of the nation’s first permanent settlements. Today, Wilmington’s pedestrian-friendly attractions, like Riverfront Wilmington and the Market Street Mall, combine with its diverse architecture to give the city a vibrant yet historically relevant appeal.
